At the recommendation of lifelong friend Tim Tanner, we stopped through for a drink one Saturday night. In short, the minute we walked through the door, we knew this was the place. We very much look forward to meeting you there in September. And for you history buffs....
The Hunt-Phelan home is routinely referred to as one of the oldest and most historic houses in Memphis. Maybe the country. It was designed by Robert Mills, who also drew up the plans for the Washington Monument, among other structures. It has billeted American presidents Andrew Jackson, Marten Van Buren, Andrew Johnson, and Grover Cleveland, as well as Confederate president Jefferson Davis (a close friend of the Hunt-Phelan family and godfather to William Hunt Phelan). Rebel generals Bedford Forrest and Leonidas Polk both stayed there, and Union general Ulysses S. Grant headquartered in the house during the summer of 1862. Built circa 1840, additional information on this amazing property can be found here.
